This study addressed ways in which maternal stress(MS) factors are associated with child physical aggression(CPA) and how these relationships may be intervened by mother-child interactive play(MCIP). To better understand the developmental origins of child physical aggression, and to identify targets for early preventive interventions, this study examined the effects of maternal stress and mother-child interactive play to decrease children with physical aggression. Participants included 41 mother-child dyads. Measurements, Parental Stress Index(PSI), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), and child physical aggression which are mother self-reported were administered when the children were in grade 1. Mother-child interactive play also measured as context for joint tasks. Using structure equation modeling analysis, the results of this study confirmed that mother-child interactive play is a buffer of the linkage between maternal stress and child physical aggression. Thus, mother-child interactive play acts to buffer the negative cycle of family adversity.
